9 year old girl Killed in Chicago shooting and 10 others injured

A nine-year-old girl was killed and ten people, including three children, were injured in a shooting that happened on Chicago's Southwest Side on Saturday night.  Just after 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, according to Chicago police, officers responded to a shot spotter alert in the 2000 block of West 52nd Street, in the Back of the Yards. Upon reaching the location, they discovered multiple victims of gunshot wounds.

Spot shotter reported 18 bullets fired at the site, according to police. Police said the victims were outside at a family get-together.

Officers report that a 9-year-old girl was shot in the head and sent to Comer Children's Hospital. After a little while, she was declared dead.

The deceased victim's identity has not yet been released by the police.

Three further boys, one year old, eight years old, and nine years old, were shot as well and sent to Comer Children's Hospital, according to the authorities. Multiple gunshot wounds were categorized as critical for both the 1-year-old and the 8-year-old. Despite having a cut on his finger, the 9-year-old was reported as being in good health.

Pastor Donovan Price stated, "All I can say right now is, God help us. I'm going to pray, you pray, and bless us."
Police also report that seven additional individuals, ages 19 to 38, were hurt in the shooting. Six were described as in good condition, and one was listed as critically ill.

A statement was released early on Sunday morning by Ald. Stephanie Coleman of the 16th Ward, the location of the incident.

The Back of the Yards neighborhood, according to Coleman's statement, "is united in our grief, prayers, and collective mindset that we must continue to stand firm against these senseless acts of physical force."

"Violence is a citywide problem that persists in misrepresenting the fundamental qualities and spirit of our neighborhoods. We are all deeply hurt and upset by this catastrophe. I have faith and confidence that the Chicago Police Department, under Superintendent (Larry) Snelling, will make every effort to find the person or people who committed this cowardly atrocity.
